These services are available to you by speaking with your family doctor. The type of therapy will depend on the nature of your concern and your goals for counselling. Treatment may involve group programs or one-on-one counselling. Read on to learn more about our mental health professionals and the help we provide.

Mental Health Professionals
​
At the Kingston Family Health Team we have several kinds of mental health professional, each of whom have a role in your mental health care.
​
Family Physician
​
A medical doctor who orchestrates your medical care and who can prescribe medications for mental health. Several of the family physicians in our Team also provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a type of talk therapy. Referrals to the other mental health professionals on our Team must come from a KFHT family physician, nurse practitioner or other Team professional. Your family physician can also refer you to mental health professionals outside the Team.

Nurse Practitioner
​
An advanced practice registered nurse who is here to monitor health and provide some brief counselling.

Social Worker
​
Our social workers have advanced degrees (MSW) in social work and provide a range of services including counselling, groups for mental health as well as system navigation for those who need help connecting with other services.
